Summer Reading: A Joy or a Drag?

Summer is the perfect time to pick up a book and get lost in it. There's the luxury of time, the beach, or a comfy porch chair to whisk you away into a fantasy land or let you get up close and personal with a memorable character.

Here's my first question: if you read a book from the school's summer reading list, did you end up pleased with the selection and the experience? If not, why?

Second question: if you read books of your choice, which one(s) resonated with you and why? Perhaps there is a book or two you would suggest for next summer's reading list?

I read "A Lesson Before Dying" for summer reading this year. I was very pleased with the experience of a new writer and a different genre of book i would never had picked up. I like to read horror and mystery books in my spare time. They are always thrilling to read. I enjoy the suspense, it makes me want to keep reading and not put the book down.

The books I've read for fun was Sleeping with Strangers by Eric Jerome Dickey. Another one was Diary of a Groupie by Omar Tyree. Both were very good and interesting. I liked the mysterious feeling both stories bring and also excitement. Most books I read are written by black authors because you want to read something by someone you feel you can relate to I think

For my summer reading I read "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Catch-22". Of the two I only found the latter to be slightly depressing. I suggest doing a little research on the books before reading it. That way you know what you're getting yourself into and can choose a book you will enjoy. ^_^

For my summer reading book I read "Breathing Underwater". I was very pleased with my book. It was very interesting I couldn't put it down. I liked viewing the life of a teenager whose background was way different than mine. I think I would enjoy reading aqnother book by this autuhor.

Once again, I read Catch-22 this summer. As always, it was a hectic, yet fulfilling book. The characters represent a paradox so profound in modern society, and the story around these people only makes the book better. Catch-22 really makes one wonder what constitutes insanity, or what defines sanity. All in all, Catch-22 is a great book. I highly recommend it.

I didn't really read this summer. I read like half of one book and that was L8r G8r by Lauren Myracle. I think reading is a drag unless i find that it's interesting, like teen books or fiction im into that stuff, i am also into mythology.

One of the very few books I have read that I actually enjoyed the book "Blinded" by Kashamba Williams. Honestly the reason I actually read the book was because, that is my cousins aunt. But the book was very interesting, mainly because, it took place in DE. As I read the book I could visualize the places that were being named in the book. There was a lot of action taking place that would not let me put the book down for a long period of time.

This summer I read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." I adore Khaled Hosseini so the first book was an easy, fun read. The second was just a request from my father because he said, "the movie was really great." As you can guess, I was not excited to read the whole thing just to watch a two-hour film at the end, but overall the whole book interested me. All in all, summer reading was not that bad.

I read "Life of Pi" for my summer reading. I enjoyed reading this book over the summer. Pi was an intersting character who I felt no connection with but for some reason I liked him alot. I would recommend this book to anyone who is bored and needs something to do.

Reading for summer? What ever happened to reading for fun? I read multiple books at a time and always find it a joy. When I was a kid and forced to read i hated it, it made me detest reading and most books. Reading should be for personal enjoyment and not as a benchmark for grades. This summer I read many books, and enjoyed them. Steven Kings the Stand, 2 books on Che Guevara and the last 2Harry Potter books were among my favorite reads this summer. I liked that no one forced me to read them either.

for summer reading i read "The Kite Runner." I actually did'nt read during the summer(procrastination) and wound up having to read it during a weekend (dont recommend doing that) but i guess it was a good enough book that i didnt mind it.

I read "The Stand" by Stephen King for summer reading. This book was about a flu-like disease that was invented by the government to use against enimies. But the disease got out and everyone was infected with it. This book is different than any of the other books I've read. I think reading is a joy only if the book is interesting to me.

The summer reading books that I ahd to read were "Things Fall Apart" and "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat", both of which I enjoyed reading. I like to read fiction, and I really don't think I'll specify on that topic.
