AI Big Read: Time for Pleasure Reading

Over the Holiday break, we hope that you had time to read something just for the fun of it. Not for school, not for an assignment. You can probably earn some extra credit for this from one or more of your teachers.
Just reply to let us know about the books you've been reading. What proved to be a memorable aspect of the book? Would you recommend them to others? Why or why not? Just add some thoughts about the book and/or the author to get a conversation going.

There are so many books that I could suggest to people but I think that one imparticular that I've read recently is "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown. Just like everyone else, I got caught up in the whole "Da Vinci Code" controversy and found myself unable to put this book down. I found that this book is almost written just like "The Da Vinci Code". It was thrilling and suspenseful and had the same sort of mysteriously realistic subjects. What makes this book particularly interesting is that fact that it could possibly happen or could be happening right now, because the fiction is bordering so closely to reality, it makes it a little bit scary in some aspects. But I must say, this book was great so, read it and post another comment.

Happy Reading,
Brittany

I just finished reading "Native Son," by Richard Wright for AP English and it was a very good book. I recommend it for everyone.

Although the novel is about a black man on trial for murdering a white woman in the 1930's in Chicago. The overall meaning of the novel is much deeper than that hence the title "Native Son," which is showing the main character Bigger Thomas as a product of American society.

Following this read, I plan on finishing "The Bluest Eyes" by Toni Morrison and "A Street Car Named Desire" by Tennesse Williams, which are a book and a play that are of interest to me.

I didn't really the opportunity to read many books over break due to the Tournament of Roses Parade band trip, but the one I did get in was the second installation in a series called "The Last Apprentice" By Joseph Delaney. The Last Apprentice series is both spooky and a tad bit humorous at the same time, creating a cast of memeorable characters including the Spook (also known as Mr. Gregory), Tom, and Alice. The plots of the series are always exciting and even though you think you know what's going to happen, it turns out much differently. So read them. Now.

The books I've read for fun was Sleeping with Strangers by Eric Jerome Dickey. Another one was Diary of a Groupie by Omar Tyree. Both were very good and interesting. I liked the mysterious feeling both stories bring and also excitement. Most books I read are written by black authors because you want to read something by someone you feel you can relate to I think.
